Troll Rant
Maybe it’s my state of mind recently, but there seems to be a preponderance of asshats making nuisances of themselves on the net these days.
We all know about my woes and some of you are aware of tshsmom‘s woes. My good blogfriend Milla has had major issues, too, that have gone on for about two years. Dr. Monkey has recently has his blog marked as spam and is thus locked out of his own site until Blogger reviews his blog to ensure it’s not spam. This also happened to a number of his readers, too, and they are also awaiting a decision from blogger. Apparently, someone doesn’t like left-leaning US content. Dr. Monkey has set up a second blog so he can blog on. Meanwhile, a blog I subscribe to even though I don’t agree with some of the content has been having some troll issues as well. I have tons of other examples, too, some even including threats of identity exposure and other stupid shit like that.
We live in the age of free speech, and I am certainly not going to trample on anyone’s right to write on their blog what they want to. The flipside of that is that I can choose whom to read and whom to ignore – just like all of you can. Because you don’t like the content or the blog persona of the author, however, doesn’t mean you have the right to act like an asshole. If you want to act like an asshole, go do so over on your own blog and exercise your right to free speech there.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t have much of a life, and I am a woman of strong opinions. But even I don’t have the time to spend surfing around the net being a sniping bitch troll on someone else’s blog or YouTube channel, and if I care to put down my opinions using the written word, that’s what this blog is for.
Got it?
A few months ago, I had my blog declared “spam” too and had to wait for blogger to review. I’m guessing that someone may have accidentally hit the flag button as it’s right beside the “next blog” button. What a stupid place to put it. I’m guessing there have been a number of problems this way. Although if Dr. M AND his readers are getting the same thing, then it’s likely some idiot who doesn’t like anyone having opinions that differ from his own. >>As for trolls, I still don’t understand why they bother. DOn’t they have better things to do with their time? Apparently not. It’s a shame because it’s not them who suffers from their actions…it’s their victims. >>Please, please let there actually be Karma!!!
Hmmm at first I thought that I was the only one declared to be a spammer, and thought that it was due to my joke lists. Now that I think of it, it’s probably some troll that we have in common.>>Amazing little egos such creatures appear to have, huh? In the end we all wind up where we were. None of us are going to stop blogging.>>So what’s the point?>>Good post, WC.
I’m with you – we have better things to do other than troll the internet for people to harass. The one I had was even screwing with my job. Next, the government here has a constant search looking for certain words so we aren’t even safe from our own government trolling us. I too am a bit left leaning in some areas, but jees, last I heard it was supposed to be a “free” country. The only time I’ve crossed the government though is in protest of my boobs being patted down and my purse contents strewn on the belt in the search lane at airports. I guess there will always be miserable people out there somewhere, looking to make other people miserable so they will have some company.
Gard: oh, I forgot all about your stalker incidents – and they were BAAAAAAAD! That was just horrible – and way over crossing the line beyond trolling. I’m glad you got through that OK, even though your employer was a total dick about it.
Amen sister.
I guess trolls don’t simply set up their own blogs because nobody would go there.
RIGHT ON!!
I couldn’t agree with you more, Coyote!>Internet trolls and stalkers are one hell of a big problem, and what pisses me off the most about them is that they are 100% convinced that they know *everything* about you and therefore you become scared of them. ‘Oh piss off!’ I say.>As Karen says, I hope Karma gets them by the balls with a hard squeeze.>>But I am a little alarmed by this ‘marking blogs as spam’ business; it hasn’t happened to me yet and I hope it won’t…
