Lump

September 16, 2008

Last week, while camping, I got a series of bug bites. One on my neck was rather large and not acting like a bug bite, so today at my doctor’s office, I had my hot GP take a look. It is definitely NOT a bug bite!

After a thorough examination, he thinks it’s either one of two things: a) a reactive glad, meaning I have an infection of some kind and the lymph node is swollen or b) it’s a sebaceous cyst.

I have to wait a week to see how the lump behaves. If it’s a gland, it’ll shrink back to normal and nothing more needs to be done. If it’s a cyst, it needs to be excised, which is a procedure I can have performed in the doctor’s office. It involves an incision about the size of the lump – which is quite large – and then the doctor scoops the cyst out.

So now I wait. Great!

Now appearing at ReTorte, my great hazelnut adventure.

Good luck. I hope it’s nothing serious.

I absolutely HATE anything that feels lumpy or bumpy … it freaks me out. Thankfully your doctor doesn’t think it’s anything ominous. Mine was a small hard lump which wasn’t really movable which had me totally terrified. Soft and squishy is ok … hard and unmovable is freak out time. The waiting to have anything done is a killer so I can sympathize with you.

several years ago, I had a mole type thing on my face that started to grow like crazy. Turned out it was no big deal and I had it removed…still, it was scary to have this thing growing on my face.

Fingers crossed that it’s just a silly old lump that’s worst effect is causing you stress! (…and Muskol… lots of Muskol next time!)

I should know better than to click on the “sebaceous cyst” hyperlink while eating dinner. Mmmm, mmmm… the appetizing photo of “cyst in a jar”. NOT! Hope it shrinks away!

Good luck with this! I hope I’ll never have to experience it. Do you remember that Red also had a post about this some time ago?

Good luck! Even if it is a cyst the procedure sounds simple to have it removed so there should be no worries. Keep us posted πŸ™‚ Hey! Perhaps you can photo blog about the removal (if it’s necessary)! Eeewww but fascinating.
