Judgment

September 18, 2008

Yesterday, a friend shared with me a story that was going around her workplace recently.

A very young co-worker was yakking in the break room about some of his sexual practices. He has anal sex with his girlfriend, then switches to vaginal sex without…um…cleaning himself first. As a result, the girlfriend got a bit of an infection.

It took about 5 minutes for this fascinating tale of young lust gone awry to make the rounds of the office. As you might imagine, this young man is now the butt of some rather off-colour jokes.

This reminded me of many a time I sat in the break room at Crapters listening to similarly graphic talk as I tried to eat my dinner. I remember two girls unabashedly discussing the pros and cons of having sex with their boyfriends during menstruation. Apparently, it had certain pros for one girl, who later had a pregnancy scare that led to the breakup of her relationship.

All this leads me to think: what the fuck is wrong with people? In which alternate universe is it OK to share stuff like anal sex-induced infections or the pleasures of sexual intercourse during your period while some unsuspecting co-worker munches on her left-over spaghetti? Do people have no discretion? Do people have no sense of boundaries? Co-workers, where is thy judgment? I don’t care if you’re 19 (as is the anus-lover)! How stupid can you possibly be?

Well, that’s a rhetorical question, because obviously these people are stupid, IMHO. Stupid to share, stupid to share publicly in a break room, for God’s sake. Stupid because now everyone knows your dirty little secrets, and some chick you don’t even know has written a blog post about you so that the whole wide world can share in your humiliation.

Advice: just shut your trap at work, OK? No one wants to know this shit about you – trust me! And besides, you never know where your TMI stories will wind up, alrighty?

Now appearing on ReTorte: the best cake decorating job ever – the Tom Selleck cake!

So agree with you on this one – since when did bodily functions become part of the public domain? One has to conclude that these people have no sense of < HREF="http://www.answers.com/decorum" REL="nofollow">decorum<>.

Oh my god. Are you serious? And was this young man bragging? If so, it’s certainly nothing to brag about. And how does he think his girlfriend would feel if she knew he was blabbing about their sex life all over his workplace? Disgusting.

I used to work with a woman who would share the most intimate details of her sex life, and those of her sister, in front of a group of people. I always felt really uncomfortable and wondered if it was just me who reacted that way. Obviously others share in the same opinion. Just keep your mouth shut!

To me sex has always been a private matter. Two consenting adults – ok.I’m with you – please don’t share the details especially in front of strangers, especially when strangers are trying to eat, especially EVER! I don’t care, I don’t want to know, it’s like having a porno popup before the days of fine pop up software, this type of stuff invades MY privacy when I don’t ask for it!that’s my opinion – I think you have a right to feel disgusted – and then hopefully these people wash their hands before the come to the office!
