Article!
OK everyone, the moment we’ve all been waiting for: my first article as reporter for The Rossland Telegraph.
Taking this on has been quite the learning experience. When I first read the blurb about the new bylaw enforcement process in town in the latest City Hall newsletter, I was anticipating a very different story than the one I wound up with. I think this had to do with the misleading nature of the blurb itself, which seemed to indicate to me that bylaw enforcement was all of a sudden going to be a bit more DIY. From what I interpreted from the wording, Rosslanders would be responsible for reporting bylaw infractions themselves rather than having someone going around town looking for infractions. After talking to city hall staff about this, it turned out not to be the case, as you can read from the article.
I also learned not to make too many assumptions about stories and that what seems to be juicy and meaty can often turn out to be barely interesting and dry as the proverbial bone. As my editor said to me, “welcome to small-town reporting!”
Anyway, I am happy with how it turned out and look forward to my next assignment, which I should be getting on Monday.
That idiot with the idling truck should be whipped. Gods, how myopically ignorant!
Congrats! Keep the articles coming.
Well done on the article! That can’t be an easy topic to tackle, but you have managed to make it compelling and to add some human interest to it. Who doesn’t hate asshole roofers and idling trucks?
Congratulations again, Coyote!
