Telegraph Time
Since I was away at the beginning of last week, my contributions are a bit out of whack this week, so here is what’s published so far, with more coming tomorrow.
1. Mentally Interesting #2: The Affordable Housing Edition. Finally, I got this off my plate after waiting for ages for certain contacts to get back to me (not Nola Maison). I think it turned out pretty well in the end, and the Telegraph guys were very happy with it.
2. An article with a local angle on Canada Post’s lockout. That’s here. So far, they haven’t been legislated back to work, which is a good thing – except if you’re waiting for money or, in my case, parcels. I support the union, however, and I hope they get a fair agreement eventually (not likely though with this new Harpy Conservatwat majority government :().
Very good article on housing.
To me even the 30% threshold is out of whack when you take disposable income (or income for other living expenses) into account. For example, even if one could get decent housing for say $375@month, (pipe dream) as you point out. “$513.42 is also meant for food, transportation, medical costs not covered by MSP, clothing, and any other needs a person has in a month.”
If your income is $50K, you could easily find housing within that 30% range and still have a enough for transportation, medical cost, clothing and could save some for emergencies and old age.
EVERYONE should have safe and affordable housing, I don’t care if one is on disability, or working full time at a lower paying job (and there are lots of people in that category). It should be a right.
Your article is very good, very informative. It makes me ashamed to be an American. If you lived in this country, the powers that be would be happy to allow you to become a street person, and that is just plain wrong.
Your housing article is really well written and quite an eye-opener. I am aghast at the hoops that your friend Nola had to jump through to secure housing.
